Rio 2016 triple Olympic sprint medalist Tori Bowie has died aged 32

Tori Bowie RIP

Rio 2016 triple Olympic sprint medalist Tori Bowie has died aged 32, announced her agent and the US Athletics Federation. Tori Bowie was found dead at her home in Florida. The cause of her death has not been announced. The first to mention that she had died before the official announcement was the singer Paul Askew, who wrote that “depression is real” and advised his followers to take care of their loved ones.

“We’re devasted to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister”, tweeted her agency company Icon Management Inc. “Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends”, adds the tweet.

Tori Bowie, raised by her grandmother in rural Mississippi, switched from the long jump to the sprints in 2014 and was the fastest woman in the world in the 100m that year.

At the Rio 2016 Olympics, she won silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, and along with the US 4x100m relay, she took gold. In 2017, she became the world champion in 100m. Tori Bowie remains the only American woman to win an Olympic or world title in the 100m since Carmelita Jeter in 2011.

Tori Bowie then tried her hand at the long jump again, placing fourth at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in her last major event.

She did not participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Her last race was in June 2022.
