Tokyo 2020 Olympic runner-up Rebeca Andrade won Brazil’s first ever women’s all-around title at the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, England.

The 23-year-old Brazilian, who was out of action from 2014 to 2019 due to three knee surgeries, finished with a total of 56.899 points and claimed the first world title of her career. She produced one of the best floor gymnastics performances in recent years and received a score of 14.400 points, on her vault she scored 15.166 points, on the balance beam she was scored 13.533 points and on the mixed parallel bars with 13.800 points after making a small mistake .

“Everything always happens when it’s supposed to and I’m really happy that I did everything I could. I’ve had many moments, not only in sports but also in my personal life – my injuries, the things I had to do, for to be here now. There were a lot of things that helped me make adjustments when I needed to. I don’t feel pressure from gymnastics because it’s my job”, said Rebeca Andrade.

No Brazilian has ever even won a medal in the all-around at the World Championships.

Team USA world champion Shilese Jones finished second with 55.399 points, 1.5 points behind the champion. She was scored 14.233 on vault, 14.366 on mixed parallel bars, 13.100 on beam and 13.700 on floor.

The bronze award was won by the representative of the hosts Jessica Gadirova with 55.199 points (13.833, 13.233, 13.733, 14.400).
