Qinwen Zheng (China) won the women’s singles title at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The sixth-seeded Chinese tennis player prevailed in the final over the 13th-seeded Donna Vekic (Croatia) with 2-0 (6:2, 6:3). The match lasted an hour and 46 minutes.

Qinwen Zheng, this year’s Australian Open runner-up and women’s world No 7, had a very solid start and raced to a 3:0 lead after an early break against Donna Vekic. The 21-year-old Chinese kept her lead to 5:2 and closed the set at 6:2 with another breakthrough.

The second set started in a similar way, with Qinwen Zheng breaking for 2:1 against the Croatian, but Donna Vekic quickly broke back to equalize the score at 2:2.

The rivals continued with the equal game until 4:3 in favor of the Chinese tennis player, who made a decisive break in the eighth game for an advance of 5:3. Qinwen Zheng closed the match on her serve at her first opportunity for the final 6:3.

Thus, she became the first Chinese woman to win a singles gold medal at the Olympics.
