Qinwen Zheng (China) won the title at the tennis tournament WTA 500 Zhengzhou Open with a prize pool of 780,637 USD. In the final, 21-year-old Chinese tennis player overcame a set deficit and defeated the 7th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:2, 6:4). The match lasted 2 hours and 29 minutes.
For the Asian champion, this is the second title of the season after the one in Palermo, but undoubtedly the biggest in her career in the Women’s Tennis Association.
There was no particular intrigue in the first two sets, as they went unequivocally in favor of one of the two tennis players.
Barbora Krejcikova took the first set by 6:2, erasing a 0:2 game deficit. In the second set, the roles were reversed and Qinwen Zheng made two breaks to win by 6:2.
So everything had to be decided in the third set, which lasted a little over an hour. At the beginning of it, the two players exchanged one break each. Such an exchange followed in the middle of the third set, and the result remained equal – 4:4.
However, then Qinwen Zheng again managed to break Barbora Krejcikova’s serve and pull away with 5:4. This time, the Chinese player did not hesitate and with a game to zero closed the match to the joy of the audience, who supported her during the whole match.
For the victory in Zhengzhou, Qinwen Zheng will take 74,161 USD. The runner-up Barbora Krejcikova will take 43,323 USD from the prize pool.
