Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 China Open hard tennis tournament in Beijing with prize money of almost 9 million USD. The favorite of the fans and the fifth-seeded eliminated Amanda Anisimova (USA) after a comeback with 2-1 (3:6, 6:1, 6:2) in 2:22 hours.
The win moves Qinwen Zheng into the top eight in Beijing for the first time in her career. The Chinese tennis player will play in her eighth quarter-final of the season, where she will face 17-year-old Russian tennis talent Mirra Andreeva.
Amanda Anisimova won the first set, but in the next two Qinwen Zheng lost only three games and reached the success.
Earlier today, Mirra Andreeva decisively defeated Magda Linette (Poland) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) in 73 minutes.
The top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) recorded her 15th consecutive success and qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament. The 26-year-old Belarusian tennis player defeated 18th-seeded Madison Keys (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 65 minutes and equaled the best winning streak of her career recorded in 2020/2021.
The US Open champion will face Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:0) in 69 minutes.
