Polish speed skater Karolina Bosiek

Karolina Bosiek is a Polish speed skater. She competed in the women’s 3,000m event at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. She is a silver medalist in the 1,500m event and the 1,000m and 3,000m bronze medalist at the Baselga di Pine World Junior Speed Skating Championships.

Karolina Bosiek was born on February 20, 2000, in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland. She started in sports at an early age, beginning roller speed skating at age 10, and took up speed skating in 2012.

Karolina Bosiek started her competitive career in speed skating in 2010, taking part at the Tomaszow Mazowiecki Ogolnopolskie Zawody Dzieci in the 500m event, finishing 29th. In the next years, she continue gaining experience and skills at the local events. She won her first podium in December 2011 at the Ogolnopolskie Zawody Dzieci, finishing third in 500m with a time of 53.2 sec.

In 2012, Karolina Bosiek tried also to compete in 1,000m, winning the bronze at the Zawody Kontrolne, where earned the same honor in 500m as well. The same season she debuted at Warsaw Cup in 500m and 1,000m, but failed to earn honor. She made her international debut later in the same season by competing at the Internationales Rennen in Berlin (Germany), but again did not win a medal.

During the next seasons, Karolina Bosiek made an impressive performance in junior events, winning a lot of local gold medals and podiums. She became the Junior Polish champion and senior champion. Karolina Bosiek made her World Cup debut in 2016 in Heerenveen, Netherlands. the same season she earned the team sprint bronze at the 2016 Changchun World Junior Championships.

In 2018, she won the mass start and team sprint bronze medals at the 2018 Salt Lake City World Junior Championships, before competing at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, where at age 17 years and 355 days was the youngest athlete to represent Poland at the Winter Olympics.

In 2019, Karolina Bosiek earned the 1,500m and team sprint silver medals, as well as 1,000m and 3,000m bronze medals at the 2019 Baselga di Pine World Junior Championships. In the 2019/2020 season, she was the winner at the World Allround Championships in 500m. Winning a total of three silver medals at the World Junior championships in 2018 and 2019, she was the most talented Polish athlete.

In 2022, she triumphed with the team sprint silver at the 2022 Hamar World Sprint Championships. The same season she triumphed with the team sprint gold at the 2022 Heerenveen European Championships. She competed also at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, which were her second Olympic games. In the 2023/2024 season, she started incredibly at the Polish distance championships, triumphing with the gold in 1,500m and mass start, as well as the silver in 1,000m and 500m. Later in 2023, she triumphed with the silver at the mixed relay at the Obihiro World Cup, as well as the team sprint bronze at the Tomaszow Mazowiecki and Beijing World Cups.

In 2024, Karolina Bosiek won the team sprint silver at the 2024 Heerenveen European Championships.
