Petra Kvitova qualified for the second round of the tennis tournament in St Petersburg, Russia. The sixth-seeded former champion won in two sets with 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) versus Jule Niemeier from Germany.
The Czech tennis player scored a total of five breaks to end the match in just 70 minutes.
In the next round, Petra Kvitova, who won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, will play versus Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, who eliminated Zhang Shuai in the first round.
Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) also continues to advance in the tournament after a 2-0 (6:1, 6:4) victory over Chinese Wang Xinyu. The 2015 winner will play against Andrea Petkovic. The German won hard with 2-0 (7:6, 6:4_ over the Swedish player Rebecca Peterson.
The Russian player Vera Zvonareva also qualified for the next round after success in three sets with 2-1 (6:2, 1:6, 6:4) over the Czech Tereza Martincova.
Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich also reached the second round after winning her match versus Magda Linette with 2-1 (7:5, 4:6, 6:4).
