Petra Kvitova downs top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in Dubai

The top-seeded Arina Sabalenka from Belarus was eliminated in the second round of the tennis tournament in Dubai (UAE) with a prize fund of 768,680 USD.

Aryna Sabalenka lost to former world number one Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) with 0-2 (4:6, 4:6).

Defending champion and fourth-seeded Garbine Muguruza (Spain) also left the tournament. She was defeated by Veronika Kudermetova from Russia with 1-2 (6:3, 4:6, 4:6) in 2:17 hours.

The 24-year-old Kudermetova, who eliminated former Dubai finalist Victoria Azarenka in the first round, will advance to the quarterfinals, where she will play versus Jil Teichmann.

The second-seeded Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) also lost in the second round. The Czech lost to Dayana Yastremska from Ukraine with 0-2 (3:6, 6:7).

Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia eliminated sixth-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) with 1-2 (6:4, 1:6, 6:7).

The Czech Marketa Vondrousova defeated Varvara Gracheva (Russia) with 2-0 (6:2, 6:0).
