The same did her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova, who defeated Wang Xinyu (China) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 7:5). Katie Boulter (Great Britain) eliminated Taylor Townsend (USA) after 2-0 (6:4, 6:4), 12th-seeded Diana Shnaider (Russia) did not have any problems against Sofia Kenin (USA) to win by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3), and Yulia Starodubtseva (Ukraine) eliminated Yulia Starodubtseva (Czech Republic) after 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).
The sixth-seeded Emma Navarro (USA) and the 22nd-seeded Anastasia Potapova (Russia) were knocked out of the tournament, losing to Shuai Zhang (China) by 0-2 (4:6, 2:6) and Greet Minnen (Belgium) by 1-2 (5:7, 6:2, 4:6), respectively.
Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) withdrew from the tournament before the start of heir first matches.
