Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur won the tennis tournament WTA 500 Berlin with a prize fund of 758,000 USD. In the final match, Ons Jabeur led by 6:3, 2:1, when her rival Belinda Bencic withdrew due to an ankle injury. At the moment, there is no information on the seriousness of the condition of the Swiss, who won the Olympic title in Tokyo last summer.
On the road to the final, Ons Jabeur defeated Cori “Coco” Gauff, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Alycia Parks, and Karolina Muchovа.
For Ons Jabeur, this is the third WTA title in her career and the second in 2022 after the triumph at the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open earlier in the season. The success will climb the Tunisian to No 3 in the WTA rankings, which is a record for a woman from North Africa. Since the beginning of the year, she has 22 wins and only four losses.
This season, Ons Jabeur was also the runner-up of the WTA 1000 Rome Open, losing to the world’s number one Iga Swiatek on the final, and WTA 500 Charleston Open, losing to Belinda Bencic.
Next week, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur will participate in the Eastbourne tournament, where she will play in pairs with American Serena Williams.
