Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur qualified for the Рound of 16 at the US Open for the first time in her career. She cruised to her third win over an American in the first week of the tournament. The 5th-seeded Tunisian achieved a turnover against Shelby Rogers and won by 201 (4:6, 6:4, 6:3).
Shelby Rogers played an excellent match, but at 4:4 in the second set, she double-faulted and was broken. Ons Jabeur took advantage of this, took control of the match and won seven of the last 10 games.
For a place in the quarterfinals, Ons Jabeur will face the 18th-seeded Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who convincingly won against the Hungarian Dalma Gelfi with 2-0 (6:2, 6:0). Veronika Kudermetova was winless in her previous three appearances at the US Open, but took her opponent out in 47 minutes.
The Chinese Shuai Zhang also advanced to the fourth round after a victory over Rebecca Marino by 2-0 (6:2, 6:4).
