Ons Jabeur admitted she struggled against the injured Marie Bouzkova at the US Open third-round

Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur said she was happy to overcome Marie Bouzkova (Czech republic) by 2-1 (5:7, 7:6, 6:3) in the third round of the US Open. The 31st-seeded Marie Bouzkova had a problem with one leg and took a medical timeout during the second set after taking a commanding lead in the first.

Ons Jabeur took advantage of her opponent’s difficulties and tried to move her more on the court.

“I tried to move her as much as possible. I know it’s not cool, but I wanted to win”, said Ons Jabeur, who also overcame health issues related to a cold during the week. “At times I was quite tense because some of my shots weren’t going. Maybe I was concentrating more on her than on my game. I even forgot that I wasn’t feeling well either. It’s never easy to play against an injured opponent, because it enters your mind”, added the Tunisian tennis player.

On the occasion of the match against her next opponent Qinwen Zheng, Ons Jabeur said: “I will try to have fun on the court. This is very important to me”.

Ons Jabeur lost the last year’s US Open final to Iga Swiatek. The Tunisian still cannot win the Grand Slam title either playing three finals (Wimbledon 2023, US Open 2022, Wimbledon 2022).
