Olympics ski jumping champion Maren Lundby retired from sports

The Norwegian ski jumper Maren Lundby, who is the Olympic champion in PyeongChang 2018, as well as a two-time world champion, has retired.

“I invited you to tell you that I am ending my career”, said Maren Lundby through tears at a news conference. “It’s a decision I’ve been thinking about for a while. It’s well thought out and I think it’s the best thing for me right now”, added the Norwegian ski jumper.

She refused to participate in the Beijing 2022 Olympics due to health reasons, admitting that she has a weight problem. Maren Lundby then returned in March 2023 at the World Championships in Planica (Slovenia), where she won a silver medal.

Women’s ski jumping has been on the Olympic program since 2014.

Maren Lundby is one of the most successful ski jumpers in the history of the sport, having won three consecutive World Cup overall titles, thirty individual World Cup competitions, and gold medals at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics and the 2019 and 2021 World Championships.

Maren Lundby is also known as an advocate for gender equality in the sport. Because of her efforts, women are now allowed to jump on the large hill during the World Championships.
