Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir will compete at London Marathon

Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir is back and ready for a dream victory on the streets of London. She will start the London Marathon on April 23, her first race in more than seven months, and her first marathon since winning in Boston on April 18 last year.

After winning in Boston last year, Peres Jepchirchir finished fifth in the 10km in New York in June, then had to miss the Worlds in Oregon due to injury.

She did manage to return to racing again on September 11, when she finished second in the Newcastle Half Marathon in 1:07:07 hours, beaten only by compatriot Hellen Obiri, who won in 1:07:05 hours.

“Here I am, dreaming of how I will take to the streets of the British capital in one of the most prestigious marathon races. I thank God that the gluteal muscle injury, which was bothering me for a while, has been cured”, said the Olympic champion from Tokyo.

This will be her third major marathon. She won the 2021 New York City Marathon in 2:22:38 hours and last year’s Boston Marathon in 2:21:01 hours. Peres Jepchirchir’s personal record is 2:17:16 hours from Valencia 2020.
