Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo from Germany ended her work with the legendary Carl Lewis.
“I want to stay in Germany and no longer go to Carl Lewis in the USA because in the face of Ulli Knapp I found a coach I can trust. With him, I have always been in the foreground as a person, not only as an athlete. I don’t want to exchange that for something that is unknown”, said the 28-year-old two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo.
Malaika Mihambo originally wanted to go to Lewis in Texas and train there under the four-time long jump Olympic champion. The corona pandemic ruined these plans. Before the World Cup in the USA, Mihambo said in July that collaboration with Lewis, who also won several Olympic victories as a sprinter, was on the back burner.
With her previous record at the World Cup victory in Doha 2019, Mihambo does not believe her capabilities have been exhausted.
“I know that I’m definitely better than my previous record of 7.30m. I’m looking forward to showing that when I can train without injury”, said she.
Malaika Mihambo is a German athlete and the current Olympic and world champion in long jump. She won the gold at the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships, as well as the 2018 European Championships, 2015 European U23 Championships and 2013 European Junior Championships.
