Olympic high jump champion Mariya Lasitskene starts her season at a tournament in Slovakia

Olympic high jump champion Mariya Lasitskene plans to open the new season with an international tournament in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, on February 15th.

The first start for 2022 for the Russian was supposed to be on January 23 in Moscow, but on the day of the race she gave up because of a cold. Mariya Lasitskene’s main competition for the winter season is the World Indoor Athletics Championships, which will take place in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, from March 18th to 20th.

Mariya Lasitskene is a Russian athlete who specializes in the high jump. She is the 2020 Olympic champion and three-time world champion (2015, 2017, and 2019). With her victory in Tokyo, Lasitskene became the fourth female high jumper in history (after Stefka Kostadinova, Heike Henkel & Anna Chicherova) to win gold at both the Olympic Games and the World Championships.

Mariya Lasitskene has a personal best of 206 cm at Lausanne 2017/Ostrava 2019.
