Spanish tennis player Nuria Parrizas-Diaz defeated Jule Niemeier (Germany) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:2) at the start of the WTA 1000 Rome Open. The Spaniard needed two hours and a half to win the match, which offered a lot of turnovers.

Jule Niemeier won the first set after taking an early lead, but Nuria Parrizas-Diaz equalized and evenn turned over the result. However with two late breaks, the German tennis player succeeded to close the set by 6:4. The secon set offer again five breaks and both players had their chances, but at the end Nuria Parrizas-Diaz succeeded to win by 6:4 and equalized the result. The decesive third set was under the total domination of Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, who won the first 5 games in a row. Despite allowing her opponent to break her, she closed the set at 6:2 and won the match.

Thus, in the next round, Nuria Parrizas-Diaz will face the 11th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova.

Anna Blinkova (Russia) defeated Mayar Sherif (Egypt) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:2, 6:3), while Barbora Strycova (Czech Republic) eliminated Maryna Zanevska (Belgium) after 2-1 (6:1, 3:6, 6:3) and 18-year-old Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) won her match versus Shelby Rogers (USA) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:1, 6:4).

Xiyu Wang (China) eliminated Lucrezia Stefanini (Italy) by 2-0 (7:6, 7:6) and Lisa Pigato (Italy) defeated her compatriot Diletta Cherubini by 2-1 (7:5, 2:6, 6:3).
