Nominations for the 2023 World Female Athlete of the Year were announced

The World Athletics announced the nominations for the 2023 Women’s World Athletes of the Year. The nominated athletes, selected by international panel of experts, are 11 and the voting process was opened.

The nominees for 2023 Women’s World Athlete of the Year are:
Tigist Assefa – Ethiopian long-distance runner and marathon competitor, who set a world marathon record and won the Berlin Marathon.
Femke Bol – Dutch 400m and 400m hurdles runner, who set a world’s 400 indoor record and became World and Diamond League 400m hurdles champion.
Shericka Jackson – Jamaican athlete, who became 200m champion and 100m silver medalist at the Budapest World Athletics Championships. She became Diamond League 100m and 200m champion.
Faith Kipyegon – Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner, who became world 1,500m and 5,000m champion, as well as Diamond League winner in 1,500m. During the season she improved the world records at 1,500m, one mile and 5,000m.
Haruka Kitaguchi – Japanese javelin thrower, who became world champion and Diamond League champion.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh – Ukrainian high jump athlete, who became world champion and Diamond League winner in the event.
Maria Perez – Spanish race walker, who became 20km and 35km race walk world champion and also set a world record at 35km race walk.
Gudaf Tsegay – Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner, who became world 10,000m champion and Diamond League 5,000m champion, setting a world record in the event.
Sha’Carri Richardson – American track and field sprinter, who became world champion in 100m and bronze medalist in 200m.
Yulimar Rojas – Venezuelan triple jumper, who became world champion and Diamond league champion in the event.
Winfed Yavi Kenyan-born Bahraini female 3,000m steeplechase athlete, who became world champion and Diamond League champion with world lead.

Voting for the World Athletes of the Year closes at midnight on Saturday, October 28. The votes are based on World Athletics Council, World Athletics Family, and fans.

At the conclusion of the voting process, five women finalists will be announced by World Athletics on November 13-14.
