Nigeria and Canada made a goalless draw in their first match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

Nigeria and Canada made a goalless draw in their first match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The dominance of Canada was visible, but the good reflex and saved by the Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie kept her sheet clean.

Canada failed to capitalize on their domination, as they struggled to create anything even remotely dangerous in the final meters. Nigeria played with long balls for their forward Asisat Oshoala, who failed to shot on the target in most of the cases.

Canada started the second half with a more aggressive approach and had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock with a penalty in the 50th minute. However, the Canadian forward Christine Sinclair missed to score after a marvelous save from Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Canada continue pressing their opponent, but missed several more chances with hesitant shots on the target or missing the goal.

Jordyn Huitema and Jayde Riviere were the best players on the field for Canada, while Chiamaka Nnadozie and Christy Ucheibe were the most valuable for Nigeria.

Thus, the standings in Group B after the first matches of all for teams are: Australia is leader, following by Nigeria and Canada, and Ireland is last.
