The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist in the high jump, Nicola Olyslagers, became the second athlete with a result over 2.00m in the season. The Australian won first place at the Paris Diamond League last night with exactly 2.00m. She managed the height on the third attempt, and then made three faults at 2.03m.
“To clear two metres on my third attempt was such a joy”, said Nicola Olyslagers. “I knew I had some really good jumps previously but I just went off my history and I knew that if I could hold my position and get that feeling like I did in 2021 – that anything is possible – that’s what we saw today”, added she.
The world ranking for the season is headed by Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine) with 2.01m.
The Portland 2016 World Indoor Champion Vashti Cunningham (USA) earned the silver with 1.97m, which she cleared on her first attempt. With the same achievement, the 17-year-old Serbian Angelina Topic, who passed this height on her third attempt, came third. The girls’ world champion and European women’s medalist from Munich 2022 also improved her country’s national record.
Nicola Olyslagers is an Australian high jumper. She won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the high jump and is the current high jump Oceanian record holder.
