Two athletes ran under 49 seconds at the London Diamond League’s 400m event, and another three were under 50 seconds. The victory with a new tournament record, a new Jamaican national record and the best result in the world for the season went to Nickisha Pryce (Jamaica), who clocked 48.57 sec. With this result, she moved into seventh place in the all-time ranking of the discipline, which is headed by the legendary German athlete Marita Koch with 47.60 sec since 1985.
This remarkable performance comes as Nickisha Pryce’s final race before the Olympic Games, which kick off with the opening ceremony on July 26.
Rome 2024 European Champion Natalia Kaczmarek (Poland) produced another impressive run to set another Polish record of 48.90 sec, but remained with the silver at the London Diamond League. Lieke Klaver (netherlands) also imrpoved her personal best and finished third with 49.58 sec.
Two more athletes in this outstanding run achieved results under 50 seconds. Amber Anning (Great Britain) finished fourth in 49.63 sec, and her compatriot Laviai Nielsen improved her personal best to finish fifth in 49.87 sec.
