Netherlands women’s football team smashed China by 8-2 to win Group F of the tournament at the Tokyo Olympics. Thus, Netherlands secured the top position in the group with 7 points and continues to the knock-out stage. The second in the group remained Brazil after a hard win versus Zambia with 1-0.
Despite the big result, the match between Netherlands and China started quite equally. The Netherlands took a lead after a goal of Shanice van de Sanden in the 12th minute, but the Chinese made 1-1 by Wang Shanshan in the 27th minute. However, by the end of the half-time Lineth Beerensteyn scored twice to give a comfortable advantage for the Netherlands.
In the second half the domination of the European team was visible after Lieke Martens and Vivianne Miedema increased the result to 5-1. Yanwen Wang returned a goal for China, but another goal Lieke Martens, as well as Victoria Pelova and Vivianne Miedema formed the final result 8-2, which guaranteed the top position for the Netherlands.
In the other match from the group, Brazil took a hard win versus Zambia after the goal of Alves da Silva Andressa in the 19th minute. Thus, they secured second place with 7 points and qualified also for the quarter-finals.
Zambia and China took the last two places in the group with 1 point each and were eliminated from the tournament.
