Former number 1 in women’s tennis Naomi Osaka (Japan) has announced that she splits with her coach Wim Fissette.
“Four years, two Grand Slam titles and many memories. Thanks to Wim Fissette for being a great coach and an even more wonderful person. I wish you all the best!”, wrote the Japanese tennis player on social networks.
Wim Fissette coached Naomi Osaka from 2019 to 2022 and resumed working with her after the Japanese returned to court in July 2023 following maternity leave. Under the Belgian coach, Naomi Osaka won two of her four Slam titles – the 2020 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open.
The 26-year-old tennis player is currently ranked 75th in the WTA world rankings.
Of the 16 tournaments that Naomi Osaka has played this season, it has reached the quarterfinals in only two – Doha and Hertogenbosch. The Japanese also failed to get past the second round in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
