Nafissatou Thiam has set her sights on a return to the European Athletics Championships in Rome (June 7-12). The Belgium athlete main aim, however, is to secure the Olympic heptathlon standard of 6,480 points – a score she has beaten in every heptathlon since 2016. Nafissatou Thiam is also hoping to win a third European title in her crown event, which she has dominated since winning Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
To date, the Belgian has two European titles – from Berlin 2018 and Munich 2022.
Nafissatou Thiam is also looking to complete a hat-trick of Olympic and European heptathlon titles in 2024 by triumphing at the Continental Forum in Rome and the Paris Games. To date, no athlete of either gender has won three Olympic titles in the heptathlon or decathlon.
“Nafissatou Thiam is looking forward to competing at the highest level again and trying to qualify for Paris”, said the management team of the athlete in a media release.
Nafissatou Thiam is currently continuing her training in South Africa.
