Mujinga Kambundji (Switzerland) defended her European 200m title from Munich 2022. The Swiss printer dominated the hotly contested half-lap final at the Olimpico in Rome with a season’s personal best of 22.49sec (0.7m/s). She was only 1 hundredth ahead of Daryll Neita (Great Britain), who equaled her personal record for 2024 with 22.50 sec and won the silver medal.
“I am honestly just so disappointed because I really wanted that medal”, said Daryll Neita. “I know how much I should have got that [the gold]. I thought it was close on the line, I could feel myself dipping which isn’t my strongest thing. I am happy for the winner. I am not a bitter athlete. I’m upset at myself because I came here for the gold. I’m grateful to finish the race healthy. It is still the middle of the season so I can’t let this dictate how my season goes, there are bigger things happening this season”, added she.
Helene Parisot (France) recorded a personal best of 22.63 sec for the bronze medal.
Henriette Jaeger (Norway) and Tasa Jiya (Netherlands) completed the Top 5 from the event.
