Australian swimmer Mollie O’Callaghan won the Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships in the 200m freestyle, breaking the world record. She finished with a time of 1:52.85 min, ahead of compatriot Ariarne Titmus, who was 16 sec behind. The bronze medal went to Canada’s Summer McIntosh.
Mollie O’Callaghan beat the world record of Federica Pellegrini (Italy) from 2009 of 1:52.98 sec.
“If I’m being honest, I feel shaken, I was just expecting to have fun. Coming away with the record is just amazing”, said the Australian swimmer after the victory.
Mollie O’Callaghan is an Australian swimmer. She competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, winning 2 gold medals and a bronze medal, all from heat swims. Mollie O’Callaghan has been a member of five world record Australian relay teams, most recently at the 2022 Short Course World Championships. She is a six-time World Champion, five-time Commonwealth Champion and double Olympic Champion, as well as a five-time World Record holder, ten-time Australian Record holder and former World Junior Record holder.
