Mirra Andreeva qualified for the fourth round of Wimbledon. The 16-year-old Russian defeated her compatriot and 21st-seeded Anastasia Potapova by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5). The teenager, who is WTA No 102, is playing in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the second time in her career.

Mirra Andreeva scored three breaks in the first set to close it at 6:2. In the second set, the 22-year-old Anastasia Potapova squandered a 4:1 lead against the qualifier, who became the youngest woman to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon since 15-year-old Cori Coco Gauff (USA) four seasons ago.

“I’m really more than happy that I won this match. The battle was amazing. She performed more than well and I gave everything I could. I feel amazing”, said Mirra Andreeva

In the next round, she will face American Madison Keys. The 25th-seeded and champion of the WTA 500 Rothesay International Eastbourne, won by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) against Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine).

Jessica Pegula (USA) won by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3) against Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine). The 4th-seed American recorded a total of five breaks to just one for the Ukrainian in a match that lasted just 72 minutes.

In the quarterfinals, Jessica Pegula will play against Marketa Vondrousova. The Czech tennis player prevailed after a turnaround with -1 (2:6, 6:4, 6:3) against her compatriot Marie Bouzkova. In the third set, Marie Bouzkova, who eliminated the fifth-seeded Caroline Garcia in the previous round, lost her serve twice and this allowed Marketa Vondrousova to qualify for the first time after the top eight tennis players at Wimbledon.
