Mirra Andreeva eliminated 7th-seeded Marketa Vondrousova to reach the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open

The 16-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva qualified for the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open clay tennis tournament with a prize money of 8.7 million USD.

Mirra Andreeva eliminated 7th-seeded Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) after 2-0 (7:5, 6:1) in just 76 minutes of play in a match of the third round. The Russian tennis player led by 4:1 in the first set against the 2023 Wimbledon champion, allowed a reversal to 4:5, but won the next three games for a successful 7:5. In the second set, she continued her streak with 4 new games for 4:0 and won 6:1.

Mirra Andreeva’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Caroline Garcia (France) and Jasmine Paolini (Italy).

Fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) prevailed over Mayar Sherif (Egypt) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:4) and awaits a fourth-round match against Sara Bejlek (Czech Republic), who earlier eliminated Ashlyn Krueger (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:1).

In a duel to reach the quarterfinals, the 10th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) will face Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan). Daria Kasatkina defeated the 20th-seeded and her compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with 2-0 (7:6, 7:5), while Yulia Putintseva defeated Caroline Dolehide (USA) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2).
