Rising Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva celebrated her 16th birthday with another prestigious win at the WTA 1000 Miami Open tournament. This time, the Russian wild card player eliminated 17th seed and Australian Open semi-finalist Magda Linette by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in 87 minutes and qualified for the Round of 16.

In the second round, Mirra Andreeva became the seventh youngest of the new millennium to beat a top-20 player when she defeated the 13th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The Russian now has 16 straight professional victories, and her next opponent will be the 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Camila Osorio (Colombia) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:5). Mirra Andreeva herself lost the Australian Open junior final in January.

Mirra Andreeva is the third youngest to win a match at a WTA 1000 Masters’ tournament after Cori Coco Gauff and Catherine Cartan “CiCi” Bellis.

Elise Mertens (Belgium) also qualified for the fourth round after defeating Jule Niemeier (Germany) by 2-0 6:3, 6:4).

The Romanian tennis player Irina-Camelia Begu eliminated Shelby Rogers (USA) after 2-0 (7:5, 6:2) and qualified for the Round of 16.
