Mirjam Bjorklund defeated Alycia Parks at the start of the WTA 250 ATX Open

Mirjam Bjorklund (Sweden) eliminated the seventh-seeded Alycia Parks (USA) at the start of the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin, USA. The Swedish tennis player, who is WTA No 151, defeated the American by 2-1 (6:4,4:6,6:4) in a match that lasted 2:16 hours.

Mirjam Bjorklund made two breaks again only one for her opponent and took an important lead. However, in the second set, Alycia Parks equalized with a late break in the very last game. Mirjam Bjorklund had a hard time in the second game of the third set at her own serve, when she needed to save 3 break points before eventually winning her service game. After that she concentrated and achieved a break in the seventh game of the set, which was enough to close the match with 2-1.

In the next round, Mirjam Bjorklund will face Peyton Stearns (USA), who defeated the British qualifier Katie Boulter by 2-1 (7:6, 6:7, 7:6) in 3:26 hours.

Katie Volynets (USA) also qualified for the second round of the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin. She defeated her compatriot Alison Riske-Amritraj by 2-1 (6:, 3:6, 6:0).

Anna Blinkova (Russia) defeated Ann Li (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4), while Heather Watson (UK) defeated Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:4).
