Mirela Demireva won the high jump gold at the Istanbul Balkan Athletics Championships

The Olympic silver medalist in the high jump from Rio 2016 Mirela Demireva (Bulgaria) won the first Balkan title for Bulgaria in Istanbul. Mirela Demireva won the high jump event with 1.89m, which she overcame on the second attempt. She previously cleared 1.80m, 1.83m and 1.86m on her first attempt.

Having already secured the gold medal, Mirela Demireva lifted the bar to 1.97m, but failed in any of her three attempts at that height.

The silver medal in the women’s high jump was won by Daniela Stanciu (Romania) with 1.86m, and the Panagiota Dosi (Greece) came third with the same result.

Mirela Demireva is a Bulgarian high jumper, who is silver medalist from the Berlin European Athletics Championships in 2018 and Amsterdam European Athletics Championships in 2016, as well as Bydgoszcz World Junior Athletics Championships in 2008.
