The American two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Cup alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin still cannot prevail over the loss of her father. She said that it is still very painful for her. her father, Jeff Shiffrin, has hung by an accident on a wall in her Edwards home on February 2, 2020.
“It’s still pretty painful to think about, so I don’t think about it too much”, said Mikaela Shiffrin. “I imagine there’s going to be some really, really difficult moments. And some of it will also be OK. So it’s like anything in life. With this, the hard moments hit whenever they want. It’s not when you choose to be sad or excited.”, added she.
Her mother, Eileen, expects that Mikaela’s initial visit to the finish line in China will be “heartbreaking and maybe tough to get through”, due to the absence of her father.
Mikaela Shiffrin, who is expected to enter all five individual Alpine events and be one of the main faces of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics that open on February 4, never can be certain when the happy memories of her father might flood back.
Meanwhile, Mikaela Shiffrin has dismissed longtime coach and trainer Jeff Lackie. He mainly worked with Shiffrin on strength and conditioning and in the speed disciplines during his six-year tenure. The move was confirmed by Jesse Hunt, the Alpine director for the US Ski Team.
