Mikaela Shiffrin recorded her 90th World Cup victory in women’s alpine skiing

Mikaela Shiffrin recorded her record 90th World Cup victory in women’s alpine skiing and 55th in slalom after winning in Killington, Vermont, United States. This is her sixth win in seven starts at this track. She beat Slovakian and Olympic champion Petra Vlhova by 0.33 sec, being the fastest in both heats. Mikaela Shiffrin’s time is 1:42.02 min (48.27 seconds in the first run and 53.75 seconds in the second). Petra Vlhova’s time is 1:42.35 min and she was Mikaela Shiffrin’s only real opponent today. The third place is Wendy Holdener (Switzerland) – 1.37 sex behind the winner.

Mikaela Shiffrin, who has won two of the three slaloms since the start of the 2023/2024 season, has 15 more career victories in the event than second-ranked Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark. Last March, she broke his record of 86 wins across all disciplines.

Mikaela Shiffrin had a rough start to this season, suffering a bone bruise on her left tibia during practice. He had to stay in hospital for a while and suffered a lot of preparation.

At the end of the race, the 28-year-old American showed much more emotion than usual when she learned she was first, waving her fists wildly as fans cheered her on.

is Wendy Holdener, who won 12 months ago, edged Germany’s Lena Duerr, who was second in the first run, by 0.19 sec. After the first run today, Lena Duerr was still within striking distance of Mikaela Shiffrin in second place. But in the final, she had to do a split just before the finish and barely held on to the course, an action that had an impact and she missed out on the podium. The Italian Marta Rossetti achieved her best ranking in the World Cup with the 5th place after an incredible ride in the second run.

The victory today increased the advance of the American in the general standings, where she has 350 points. Petra Vlhova is in 2nd position with 266 points and Sara Hector (Sweden) is 3rd with 224 points.
