Mikaela Shiffrin: I have no words to explain my emotions

Mikaela Shiffrin struggled to find words to describe her emotions after a memorable victory in the giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy, with which she broke the record for victories in the women’s alpine skiing World Cup. Mikaela Shiffrin has 83 wins, while the previous record holder, Lindsey Vonn, has 82.

“It’s hard for me to find words for what I’m feeling right now. Today has been everything – stress, calm, nerves, excitement. Long day, I feel exhausted. I’ll try to catch my breath and enjoy the moment”, said Mikaela Shiffrin after the race. “The level is very high, the competition is strong and I had to drive to the limit of my abilities to win. One mistake and you’re off the podium, even out of the top 10. You have to take risks, which sometimes brings success, sometimes not”, added she.

Mikaela Shiffrin, 27, added to reporters that she was worried before her ride in the second run after seeing her runner-up Lara Gut-Behrami’s strong descent.

“I saw her from the start and then I thought, ‘Why was I watching? I can’t ride that fast.’ I pushed as hard as I could at every turn”, added Mikaela Shiffrin.
