American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin, who released surprisingly her coach Mike Day during the World Championships in Courchevel and Meribel last month, will now be trained by Karin Harjo, the US federation said on Monday.
Karin Harjo already knows Mikaela Shiffrin from his time as an assistant coach for the US national team in technical events from 2015-2017 and then speed events from 2017-2022. This season she led the Canadian women’s team.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Karin again, this time more directly as my new head coach”, said Mikaela Shiffrin. “I’ve witnessed her exceptional work ethic, her ability to work well with other coaches, and most importantly her connection and dedication to her athletes”, added the American Alpine skier.
On February 15, during the World Championships, the American team announced the departure of Mike Day, with whom Mikaela Shiffrin achieved her incredible results since 2016. This did not prevent the American from winning the gold medal in the giant slalom and the silver medal in the slalom.
Mikaela Shiffrin became the athlete with the most World Cup victories (87) on Saturday, breaking the record held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark.
