Miho Takagi won the Olympic title in 1,000m speed skating with a new Olympic record

Miho Takagi from Japan won the Olympic title in 1,000m speed skating with a new Olympic record of 1:13.19 min.

This is Takagi’s first Olympic gold in the individual event. Earlier, she won a gold medal in the team pursuit with the Japanese team. Miho Takagi was second in the 1,500m at the PyeongChang 2018 and third in the 1,000m.

The world and European champion Jutta Leerdam from the Netherlands finished in second place with a silver medal, giving a time of 1:13.83 min.

The bronze medal went to the American Brittany Bowe, who in the last series with strong skating replaced Angelina Golikova from the trio of the Russian Olympic Committee. The American was 1.42 sec behind the champion.

1. Miho Takagi (Japan) – 1: 13.19 min (new Olympic record)
2. Jutta Leerdam (Netherlands) – 1:13:83 min
3. Brittany Bowe (USA) – 1:14.61 min
