An attack in the final meters decided the winner of the 5,000m event of the Marrakech Diamond League. With a very strong final sprint, the Ethiopian athlete Medina Eisa fought for the gold, stopping the timers at 14:34.16 min. Her compatriot Fotyen Tesfay, who led the race almost to the finish, remained second with a personal record of 14:34.21 min. Edinah Jebitok (Kenya) won the bronze with a personal best of 14:35.64 min.
The Top 5 in 5,000m event of the Marrakech Diamond League was completed by Ethiopian athletes Melknat Wudu and Likina Amebaw, who finished in 14:39.79 min and 14:44.06 min, respectively.
Medina Eisa Kumanda is an Ethiopian long-distance runner, who won the 5,000m gold at the 2022 World Under-20 Championships and silver in the junior women’s race at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships.
Meanwhile, in the 800m event, Prudence Sekgodiso (South Africa) won the gold with 1:57.26 min, while the silver went to Habitam Alemu (Ethiopia) and Noelie Yarigo (Benin) with 1:59.96 min.
