Martina Trevisan (Italy) started successfully her performance at the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open after achieving a straight-set victory versus Caroline Dolehide (USA) in only 78 minutes. The Italian player, who is world’s No 99, eliminated her eight-seeded American opponent after 2-0 (6:3, 6:2).
Martina Trevisan started the match with a break, which she confirmed by winning her next serve game, although saving two break points, and took a lead of 2:0. However, Caroline Dolehide returned the break and equalized to 2:2 and after winning her next serving game even overturned the score to 3:2. Since then, Martina Trevisan won four games in a row, including two breaks and winning her serving games “on zero” to close the set at 6:3.
Caroline Dolehide started the second set with a break, but Martina Trevisan immediately returned it to equalize to 1:1. Later on, the Italian tennis player made a fantastic two more breaks and closed the set at 6:2 to advance to the second round of the prestigious hard court tennis tournament. In the next round she will face Renata Zarazua (Mexico), who yesterday eliminated Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine).
Earlier in the day, Ena Shibahara (Japan) eliminated Kimberly Birrell (Australia) after 2-0 (6:4, 7:6), while Ashlyn Krueger (USA) defeated Tatjana Maria (Germany) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:2).
