After winning the 7.5 km sprint at the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof on Friday and triumphing in the 4 and 7.5 mixed relays yesterday, Marte Olsbu Roiseland ended her perfect weekend in Thuringia today with a 10 km victory.
The Norwegian started the race with a seven-second lead, but after the first shot, she swelled to over half a minute. Thus, she had the comfort of making one mistake in her second and third shots and with a total of 18 of 20 shot targets recorded her fifth victory of the season.
The second, also with two penalty laps, was Hanna Oeberg of Sweden, who finished 33.4 seconds behind Marte Olsbu Roiseland. The third was the Belarusian Dzinara Alimbekava, who was also 18/20 and won her first podium of the season. Fourth and fifth place went to France, which were won by Julia Simon and Anais Chevalier-Bouchet, respectively. For Julia Simon, today’s start ended a series of three consecutive second places in the starts for the World Cup.
In the general standing for the World Cup, Marte Olsbu Roiseland remains at the top with 537 points, having an advance of 88 points over Elvira Oeberg. The Swede finished seventh today after making a total of three penalty laps and registering one fall on the track. Third in the battle for the big crystal globe is Dzinara Alimbekava, who has collected 418 points.
In the standing in the discipline of pursuit, the leader with 223 points is again Marte Olsbu Roiseland, which is followed by the Oeberg sisters, who have 180 points each. However, due to her victory in Annecy ee Grand-Bornand before Christmas, the smaller of the two, Elvira, has an advantage in the standings.
The Biathlon World Cup continues next week with starts in the Mecca of Biathlon in Ruhpolding, Germany.
