The current holder of the big crystal globe in the Biathlon World Cup, Marte Olsbu Roeiseland, will not start before the end of the year. The Norwegian already missed the season-opening round in Kontiolahti last week, and today the Norwegian Federation announced that she will not start in Hochfilzen (Austria) and Annecy-Le Grand-Bornand (France) this and next week.
The reason for Marte Olsbu Roeiseland’s absence is the difficult training she had in the fall and the fact that she still does not feel ready for top-level competition. Instead, she will continue to prepare, with her main focus this season being the World Championships, which will be held at Germany’s Oberhof Winter Center between February 8 and 19.
“This is a very stupid thing that I was hoping would not happen. More than anything, I wanted to compete with the rest of the team, but my body is not ready yet. Health comes first. My main goal remains the World Championship and I will try to prepare as much as possible for it”, said Marte Olsbu Roeiseland.
The other star of the Norwegian team, Tiril Eckhoff, who won the World Cup in the 2020/2021 season, will also not start until the end of the year. Thus, the leader of the women’s team of Norway in the next two rounds will be the young Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold.
