Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) and Varvara Gracheva (Russia) will play in the final of the WTA 250 ATX Open tennis tournament in Austin (USA) with a prize fund of 259,303 USD. For both, this will be their first career title match.
The 8th-seeded Marta Kostyuk defeated fourth-seeded and 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins (USA) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 84 minutes of play in the semifinals. The 20-year-old Ukrainian has four semi-finals at the WTA Tour, but has never played in a final.
“A special moment for me, very emotional. I lost four semi-finals before this match and I didn’t know what to expect. Danielle is a great tennis player and a great champion. I’m very happy that the match went this way”, said the world’s No 52 Marta Kostyuk.
The 22-year-old Varvara Gracheva defeated Katie Volynets (USA) by 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 6:4) in a clash between two tennis players looking for their first career final. The Russian was trailing 2:4 in the third set, but won four straight games and closed the match after 2:24 hours of play. Her only other semifinal so far was at a tournament in Chicago in 2021.
