The 18th-seeded Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) qualified for the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros women’s tennis championship after eliminating Laura Pigossi (Brazil) by 2-1 (7:5, 6:7, 6:4). The victory was not easy and came after very tough first and third games.

The Ukrainian tennis player recorded five aces, but also made 11 double faults. She made only 54% of the first serve against 73% for her opponent but made strong play at the second serve and this helped her to win the match.

In the second round, she will face Sofia Kenin (USA), who eliminated Laura Siegemund (Germany) after also recovering from a set loss to 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:2).
