Marketa Vondrousova will not play at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova announced that she will not participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Marketa Vondrousova, 25, won a silver medal at the previous Olympics in Tokyo three years ago. In 2019, she also played in the final of the Roland Garros tournament, on whose courts the Olympic competition will be held. Last year, the Czech won Wimbledon, but her current form has dropped sharply, which is one of the reasons for her withdrawal from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Marketa Vondrousova stated that she has an injury in her hand that will not allow her to play. She wrote on social media that she hopes to recover for the US Open, which starts at the end of August.

Marketa Vondrousova’s place in the Paris 2024 Olympics singles tournament will be taken by Katerina Siniakova, while in doubles her absence will give Linda Noskova an opportunity to appear. Linda Noskova will partner with Karolina Muchova, a singles finalist at Roland Garros a year ago.

The Olympic tennis tournament starts next Monday.
