Marileidy Paulino and Femke Bol won the 400m and 400m hurdles Diamond trophies in Eugene

Budapest 2023 world champions Femke Bol and Marileidy Paulino confirmed their excellent performances during the season also at the Diamond League Final in Eugene.

Femke Bol (Netherlands) won the gold at her crowning event, the 400m hurdles, with a new meeting record of 51.98 sec. American athlete Shamier Little finished second here with 53.45 sec, and Rushell Clayton (Jamaica) won the bronze with 53.56 sec.

Femke Bol holds the world record in the 400m indoor with a time of 49.26 sec set on February 19, 2023, the European record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.45 sec making her the second-fastest woman of all time in the event, and five Dutch records in individual events and relays. She also has world best performances in the 300m hurdles and 500m indoor.

In the women’s 400m, Marileidy Paulino also recorded a convincing success and with 49.58 sec secured the Diamond League Final trophy. The 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships silver medalist Natalia Kaczmarek (Poland) finished second with 50.38 sec, and the bronze went to Lieke Klaver (Netherlands) with 50.47 seconds.

Marileidy Paulino won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first woman from the Dominican Republic to earn an individual Olympic medal in athletics. She took silver at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. At these competitions, she earned also silver and gold in the mixed 4x400m relay respectively, running legs of 48.7 sec in 2021 and 48.47 sec in 2022.
