Marie-Josee Ta Lou won the London Diamond League 100m gold with a new meeting record

World 100m silver and bronze medalist Marie-Josee Ta Lou won the London Diamond League sprint in a new meeting record of 10.75 sec (1.2m/s). The 34-year-old Ivorian athlete broke five-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s previous record of 10.77 sec, set in 2013.

Doha 2019 World 200m champion and favorite Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) finished second in 10.85 sec, while current half-lap world champion and season’s 100m world leader in 10.65 sec Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) finished third in 10.94 sec.

Gonezie Marie Josee Dominique Ta Lou is an Ivorian sprinter competing in the 100m and 200m. She finished fourth in the 100m and 200m finals at the Rio 2016 Olympics, missing out on a medal in the 100m by seven-thousandths of a second (0.007 sec). She then won silver medals in the 100m and 200m at the 2017 World Athletics Championships, the latter in the national record time of 22.08 secs. Her 100m best is 10.72 secs (2022), thus making her the African record holder.
