The Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari won the title of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron with a prize pool of 2,788,468 USD. In the final, the 2nd-seeded Maria Sakkari defeated Caroline Dolehide (USA) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) in a match that lasted an hour and 45 minutes of play.
Thus, the Greek tennis player won her second and most prestigious WTA title of her career. The previous one was at the WTA 250 Grand Prix Sar La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Rabat in 2019.
With her victory, Maria Sakkari took a kind of revenge for himself for last year. She then again played against American tnnis player in the final in Guadalajara, but lost to Jessica Pegula. Now, against Caroline Dolehide, who started the week at world’s No 111 and made her biggest achievement so far to reach the final of WTA tournament, Maria Sakkari did not spring a surprise and cruised to success relatively easily.
Greece’s tennis player made two breaks in both sets, lost serve just once in the entire match and was never put under much pressure. The victory in Guadalajara gives Maria Sakkari excellent chances to participate in the WTA Finals in Cancun.
For this purpose, however, she will have to catch up with a gap of about 300 points compared to the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who currently occupies the eighth position, which is the last one that gives the right to participate in the final tournament of the year.
