Maria Sakkari qualified for the third round of Wimbledon

The 9th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) qualified for the third round of Wimbledon tennis championship. The Greek tennis player defeated Arantxa Rus (Netherlands) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:4) in 92 minutes, after making late breaks in the two sets.

In the next round, Maria Sakkari will play versus 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu (Great Britain), who defeated Elise Mertens (Belgium) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) and recorded her second success in the competition on grass courts in London.

Meanwhile, the American tennis player Emma Navarro eliminated former world number 1 Naomi Osaka (Japan) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1) in just 59 minutes of play. The 23-year-old Navarro was playing on Center Court for the first time, but she completely dominated the match. In the third round, she will face Diana Shnaider (Russia), who defeated Sloane Stephens (USA) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1).

Roland Garros finalist Jasmine Paolini (Italy) also advances to the third round after defeating Greet Minnen (Belgium) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2) in 1:33 hours. Her next opponent will be 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (Canada), who eliminated 26th-seeded Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6).

Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic defeated Erika Andreeva (Russia) by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).

Earlier in the day, Jule Niemeier (Germany) eliminated Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland) after 2-0 (6:2, 6:1).
