Malaika Mihambo topped the world rankings for the season in the long jump

The German athlete Malaika Mihambo topped the world rankings for the season in the long jump after winning the ISTAF race in Dusseldorf with 6.96 m.

The world, European and Olympic champion in the discipline started the competition with 6.39 m and did not improve her footage in the next four attempts. However, in his last appearance in the sector Malaika Mihambo jumped 6.96 m and set the record for the 6.79 m tournament set by Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta in 2016.

“Before my last attempt, I knew that 6.39 m would not be my last word”, said Malaika Mihambo after her victory in Dusseldorf.

She intends to take part in the 60m and the long jump in the German national championship this weekend.

Malaika Mihambo is a German athlete, and the current Olympic, world, and European champion in the long jump. Her personal best in the long jump is 7.30 m, achieved in Doha on 6 October 2019.

The leader in the world rankings for the season of 60m Ewa Swoboda again triumphed in the sprint. The European indoor champion for 2019 won 7.10 sec ahead of her compatriot from the Polish Pia Skrzyszowska. The hurdles specialist set a personal record of 7.22 sec.
