Mai Mihara won her first figure skating Grand Prix gold in Sheffield

Japanese competitive figure skater Mai Mihara won her first Grand Prix gold after taking first in Sheffield (UK). The Japanese figure skater has had seven fourth places, one silver, and one bronze since 2016 when she debuted in the Grand Prix series.

In her voluntary program, Mai Mihara landed five clean triple jumps, two more with minor errors, and received 145.20 points to finish with a total of 217.43 points.

“Now I’m really happy because I’ve finished fourth many times. I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it to the podium, but my coach told me I’d get a medal and even be on top. I couldn’t believe it. I’m so happy to be here and win this gold medal”, said Mai Mihara after the success.

In second place was world women’s champion Isabeau Levito (USA) with 215.74 points, and third was Anastasia Gubanova (Georgia) with 193.11 points, who brought her country the first honor of the circuit in her debut.

Two-time European bronze medalists Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy took first in the pairs dance with a total of 213.74 points.

The next event on the circuit is the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend.
