Magdalena Frech (Poland) won the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open title with a prize money of 922,573 USD.
The Polish tennis player defeated the Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki in the final with 2-0 (7:6, 6:4) and won the first trophy of her career.
Magdalena Frech became the fourth Polish woman to win a singles title this century, following Magda Linette, Agnieszka Radwanska and current world’s number one Iga Swiatek.
Magdalena Frech reached her first WTA singles final last July in Prague, but in Guadalajara it was her first WTA 500 and first on hard courts.
“The fourth round of the Australian Open, the final in Prague and the title here – this is certainly the most incredible year of my career. I am extremely proud of my achievements this season”, said the excited Magdalena Frech.
Olivia Gadecki arrived in Mexico with just two career wins over top-100 players, but has recorded four this week, including a second-round win over world’s No 11 Danielle Collins.
The 22-year-old Australian, who is ranked 152nd in the world, failed to become the first qualifier to take a WTA 500 singles title since 2021 when Liudmila Samsonova triumphed in Berlin.
